A terrace, balcony, gallery, or patio must respect the Quebec Construction Code to avoid any potential future legal proceedings for hidden defects after sale. This is why the following points are important to respect See also APCHQ

THE FOUNDATIONS

Your patio will be subject to enormous temperature variations which will cause constant ground movements in the coming years. This is why the support bases must be frost-resistant and installed according to regulations. There are two types of foundations we use.

  • A concrete pile foundation. This method is more expensive but very effective for larger structures such as a veranda, solarium, etc.
  • The ground screw is a newer method that has proven itself to be a solid foundation. It involves screwing metal posts into the ground using specialized equipment that is even able to place the posts in hard to reach places. It will leave only a few marks on the grass. FRAMING

2" x 8" joists spaced 16” apart on center, and bridged at 8” are the minimum required for most floor products. A 2" x 6" structure will not be sufficient and will deform with future weight. We strongly recommend covering all joists and support beams with a water-repellent membrane such asJoist Guard de RESISTOFor for the best framework we can use Trex ELEVATIONS SYSTEM.

    HARDWARE

Screws, bolts, nails, etc. used for the construction of a patio, must be stainless steel or galvanized, nothing else is acceptable. Green screws made of ceramic, zinc, etc. will oxidize very quickly in contact with the ACQ wood preservatives contained in the treated wood used in the frame and will seriously damage your patio in only a few years.
